Meet Dr. Kristi Tough DeSapri
At Bone and Body Women’s Health you will meet with Dr. Kristi Tough DeSapri to help understand, prevent and treat symptoms of perimenopause and menopause as well as osteoporosis, low bone density and fractures.
Bone & Body Women’s Health quality midlife care means:
- The right tests, properly administered with results thoroughly evaluated and clearly communicated based on the latest research and 12 years of specialization.
- Outcomes focused on quality of life – supporting living a full life from reproductive years and beyond.
- Women are heard, and symptoms are not dismissed or left unaddressed.
Menopause & Perimenopause
Every woman will reach menopause and every woman will have their unique menopause journey.
70% of women will have symptoms for 5 to 7 years and perimenopause can mimic shifting hormones. For many women menopause (marked by 12 months without menses) occurs in the early 50s. However, some women will have a non-traditional menopause journey with surgical menopause (removal of ovaries), early menopause (before age 45), or menopause induced by medication or cancer therapy.
Every 3 seconds an osteoporosis related fracture occurs. And once an osteoporosis related fracture occurs 1 in 5 women will re-fracture in the next 5 years.
Fractures are preventable. Our muscles and bones keep us mobile, independent, and strong. My goal is to help every woman understand and manage the risk factors for bone loss strength and find strategies to maintain bone strength, and prevent fractures and falls.
Bone & Body Women’s Health addresses the medical void that exists for “invisible” women – those who are past their reproductive years.
Gynecologists are not trained in menopause medicine and internists are not trained specifically in women’s health. Bone loss and osteoporosis-related fractures, which disproportionately affects women, is the orphaned child of medicine. It is often treated by endocrinologists or rheumatologists who don’t receive specialized training in the hormonal implications of bone health.
