Midlife must know

FDA removes boxed warning on estrogen containing hormone therapy!

What we know:

Since the Women’s Health Initiative Study in 2002, the boxed warning for all estrogen containing products included warnings and precautions about cardiovascular (heart) disease, breast cancer, and probable dementia even for local vaginal estrogen products.

Finally, after 23 years and a wave of women, researchers and physicians including the Menopause Society (the evidence-based organization guiding midlife women’s health) the FDA performed an independent analysis of the existing literature on menopausal hormone therapy which led to the package label updates for systemic and local hormone therapies.

What’s good to know?

This decision sheds light on the important health considerations associated with the menopause transition. Hormone therapy is a safe, effective medication for many women however fear, misinformation, lack of education are barriers for clinicians and patients.
This decision helps bring a more balanced review of the risk, benefits and alternatives when considering treatment of menopausal signs and symptoms.

What does this mean for me?

Women are unique. Like a snowflake, no two are alike.
The FDA decision is historic because it affirms menopause deserves attention and women deserve individualized treatment discussions and options. At Bone and Body Women’s Health we always follow the science and evidence and welcome your questions as the FDA moves forward with the label changes.

As we enter 2026, remember to “be where your feet are.” Even though my toes prefer a sandy beach, my feet are thankful for a new pair heated socks for the next family ski trip.

We always appreciate a 5-star review to help more women who are seeking the best perimenopause and menopause care find us.
